Hello! I'm Céline DION! Here is my life:
> 1968:
I was born on March, 30th in Charlemagne, Québec. I have 13 sisters
and brothers.
> 1958-1977: I began singing. I divided
my time between my school studies and lessons at the "Académie
dArt lyrique et dramatique".
> 1980: I recorded
"Ce nétait quun rêve" in the familys
kitchen. My mother had written the lyrics and my brother Jacques had composed
the music. The producer René Angelil was impressed by it and produced
an album: "La Voix du Bon Dieu".
> 1982: My second single, "Damour
ou damitié" was an instant hit. I became famous throughout
the French-speaking world. and I won a lot of awards.
> 1983: I recorded my début
album, "Du soleil au coeur", which produced another smash hit single,
"Mon ami ma quitté". I won 4 "Félix"
awards (at the Québec music awards).
> 1984: When Pope Jean-Paul II
came to Canada in 1984, I was chosen to represent the countrys youth.
I sang "Une Colombe". I also released a new single "Mon rêve
de toujours", which was followed by a second album, "Les oiseaux
de bonheur".
> 1985-86: In November,
I was invited to sing at the "Olympia" music hall in Paris. I won
several awards. I recorded a new single entitled "Billy". I took
some time off, to learn English and re-think my image. When I returned to
music, I recorded the single "Je ne veux pas".
> 1988: I won the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin with "Ne partez pas sans moi". (I represented Switzerland). I won another four "Félix" awards, then performed 42 dates at the "Théâtre Saint Denis" in Montreal.
> 1990: "Unison", my
first album in English. 1,7 million copies were sold.
> 1991: I gave a special gala for
my fans at the "Forum de Montréal". My album "Dion chante
Plamondon" was a a huge hit. I was chosen to record the soundtrack to
the Walt Disney film "Beauty and the Beast".
> 1992: I recorded
my second album in English with Prince. I played one of the lead roles in
"Tycoon", the English version of the hit musical "Starmania".
> 1993: I recorded a third album
in English in November: "The Colour of My Love". I also won a Grammy
Award for the soundtrack of "Beauty and the Beast". The sales of
"The Colour of My Love" soon reached record proportions, topping
the 10 million mark.
Very sad event: I lost one of my young niece, Karine, to the disease cystic
fibrosis. Happy event: I became engaged to René Angelil.
> 1994: I gave three concerts at the Olympia in Paris. I took part in the "Enfoirés au Grand Rex" concert. I had a tour in the USA and in Japan. I got married with René Angelil on 17 December 1994.
> 1995: I worked with Jean-Jacques Goldman and 4,5 million copies of my album "D'eux" were sold worldwide.
> 1996: Huge hits: a a new album
in English, "Falling Into You" (18 million copies worldwide), a
"Victoires de la musique" award. I was invited to sing at the opening
ceremony of the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Three billion people watched me.
> 1997: Exhausted, I decided to take a sabbatical and I retired to my West Palm Beach villa in Florida. I returned to the music scene with renewed vigour. 24 million copies of Let's Talk about Love" were sold.
> 1998: I announced that I was
planning to take a major career break as of January 1 2000. My new album "S'il
suffisait d'aimer" was a big hit, especially in France and Canada. 25,000
fans attended my concert in Montreal.
> 1999: I embarked upon a European
tour but I cancelled several dates when my husband fell ill. 75,000 fans turned
out to see me at the Stade de France each night . I performed a farewell concert
in Montreal on 31 December 1999.
> 2001: On January 25th, I gave birth to a baby son called René-Charles. I sang "Sous le Vent" with Garou and "God Bless America" after the terrorist attacks.
> 2002: My official comeback
with "A New Day has Come", which reached number one position in
17 countries, including the US and France.
> 2003: My concerts in Las Vegas.
I have signed an exclusive three-year contract with the famous Las Vegas hotel
Caesar Palace. A special 4,000-seater venue has been built for me.
