Verbs with the infinitive and gerund
Some verbs are followed by an infinitive.
Here are some examples ....
want to/ have to/ need to /stop to/ plan to/ would like to/ decide to/ try to/ hope to/ promise to/ stand to...
It is a good idea to learn these types of verbs with 'to' as a memory aid.
Ex: We want to watch TV.
Some verbs are followed by a gerund.

stop/ finish/ quit/ give up/ enjoy/ suggest/ mind/ postpone...
Ex: Maria postponed doing her homework
Some verbs can be followed by an infinitive or a gerund.
Here are some examples ...
like/ love/ prefer/ hate/ start/ begin/stop...
Ex: Sonia prefers to speak/speaking English.
Exercise: Choose the infinitive or gerund, or 'either' if a verb can take both forms.
