Wish or Regret
Expressing a Wish or a Regret
1)To express a wish about the present we use
Wish, if only + past tense
-I don't play the guitar --- I wish I played the guitar.
-I am not fluent in German --- I wish I were fluent in German.
2) To express a REGRET about the past we use
Wished + past perfect
-My mother lost her wallet yesterday --- My mother wished she hadn't lost her wallet.
3)To express a desire to change something we use
Wish + conditional (would)
- I wish it would stop raining.
- I wish you wouldn't keep coming late again.
