    A) How to build:                


    ➡️ 1.Affirmation:                                     


    a) Regular verbs: verb stem + -ed

    eg. : play = He played



    b) Irregular verbs: you must learn them by heart.

    Help: Irregular verbs in English.

    eg. : eat = She ate



    c) Verb be :
    2 forms : "was" & "were" (I was.- You were.- He/She/It was.- We/You/They were.)

     

    ➡️  2. Questions & negations:

    Use did .

    Contracted form: didn't.


    a) Regular verbs
    : Did + subject + stem of verb (no -ed)

    eg. : She worked in a bank. = Did she work in a bank? She didn't work in a bank.



    b) Irregular verbs :
    Did + subject + stem of verb 

    eg. : He taught English. = Did he teach English?  He didn't teach English.



    c) The verb be
    : WAS (not), WERE (not)

    Contracted forms: I wasn't - You weren't.

    eg. : Were you there? No, I wasn't there.

     

    ➡️ 3. Spelling:

    a) Verbs ending in -e => V + -d :

    eg. : love => loved


    b) Verbs ending in: consonant + -y => -ied :

    eg. : hurry => hurried


    c) Verbs ending in: one vowel + a consonant :

    double consonants:

    eg. : slip => slipped

     


     B) Main use :

     - For past, dated actions.

    A break with the present time.

     eg. : He lived in London when he was a child.
